First hand-spun project

The awesome aunt who’s housewarming gift we turned into an electric ball winder came to visit this weekend. I was so thrilled with the ball winder and the amount of work it saved that I wanted to make her something to show my appreciation. When I discovered she was visiting, and that she happened to be visiting on her birthday it just seemed too perfect, so I set about making her a shawl with my hand-spun yarn.

Saturday Cheryl and I spent the day at the third of our planned spinning classes ‘gaining control’! Steve had a very busy day at home, but I will tell you all about that tomorrow.


Fibre arts

There has been a lot of fibre arts going on around here lately and boy am I having fun! Thanks need to go to Cheryl who suggested learning to spin! Spinning class not only resulted in us learning to spin, but also in new friends, me starting to learn to knit and weave, and to the possibility of the sheep earning their keep.

I am getting a little out of order. I really should be telling you about the time spent over the holiday season with my new friend and fibre-arts mentor Elizabeth, during which she has taught me how to wash fleeces and how to use a drum carder to turn my fleeces into roving ready for spinning. But I spent a good part of yesterday with her and the latest fun thing she has taught me I just can’t wait to share!
