It has been a long weekend of departures with a population reduction of 1 dog, 2 cats and 6 sheep! Today’s post will be a short one as I am not long home and have yet to have any dinner.

It has been a few days since our last post and a lot has certainly happened in that time. Some happy, some very sad.

Orphan kittens update & photos

December 18th, 2008 by Heidi

It was pointed out to me today that it has been a while since I have shared any new photos of the orphan kittens we found in the summer. So here is the “Kitten New Room” gallery, I meant to publish ages ago, from when we moved them up to the spare bedroom and a new favourite pictures gallery.

Seriously, how is it October? I really dont know what has happened to this year, five minutes ago we were moving into our new house! If anyone can tell me what happened to the summer I would be very grateful! Although I am not sure it was much of a summer here or in the UK from the sounds of things.

The point of today’s post is really just updates.

More pictures

Everyone is doing well, eating plenty and growing fast. The crate was not allowing for enough play space, but with all the books freedom was not an option. So a move upstairs was made, to one of the spare bedrooms where there is little that can be destroyed and lots of space to play and chase.

Of course I have been taking lots of pictures and have added another two galleries, so you can see how cute they are: “Kitten Weigh-in!” gallery and “Our Kittens” gallery

Steve and the kittens

September 9th, 2008 by Heidi

Steve and the kittens are so cute together that I just couldnt help taking lots of pictures of them, this batch really remind me of those ‘new parent and baby’ photo shoots that you see.

Rather than adding all the pictures to this page, which would make it really long and pretty slow to load, I have created a new “Introducing Our Kittens” gallery.

Drinking bath water!

September 6th, 2008 by Heidi

We are doing well, we had our second lot of worming medicine and another bath. We quite liked the medicine and took it with no trouble. Then it was in the sink and all started drinking the ‘bath water’ straight away. Fortunately this time we hadnt added anything to it. But it made us realise that perhaps they needed more to drink now that they are eating more solid food and having less milk.

We have progressed to eating dry food, to begin with it needed to be mushed with a little of the kitten milk, but now after a little encouragement we are having it dry which is much less messy. They are still having a little milk with their breakfast and their dinner, but during the day we have dry food down so that they can snack.

No news is good news!

Little black kitten

Well it has been almost a week since the last update, which is a good thing, in the ‘no news is good news’ way of thinking, because there has been very little to report. They have all taken to the kitten food quite well, we found we needed to separate the food into 4 little dishes as the black and light grey kitten really like it and the other two weren’t getting as much.

Real food!

Weaning kittens from bottle to food Milk from the saucer was difficult but as they were so keen on chewing on fingers we thought we would see if they could manage food …….

Growing well

August 26th, 2008 by Heidi

All are learning and growing well, and have pretty much gotten the hang of the litter tray. We had another attempt at getting them to have their milk from a saucer rather than a bottle, but it just ended up with a lot of mess and frustrated kittens. They didn’t get the hang of lapping and just stuck their noses in and then started sneezing! We plan to try again, we are very keen to have them weaned, in part because of the extortionate cost of KMR and in part because them eating by themselves would be a lot easier than bottle feeding 5 times a day!
