The weekend didn’t just have people coming and going, we also sold all the quail and another of the ducks, leaving us with only 2 males and 8 females. Having the double benefit of providing a little extra cash and fewer mouths to feed.
As I mentioned in last Tuesday’s post, the element in our oven put on a grand finale light show and then bowed out. I posted a distressed status update on Facebook and then went to concentrate on the long list of chores needing to be done. By lunchtime some very good friends had contacted us to say they had a spare and would like us to have it as an early Christmas present!
I was expecting it to be hard to take our ducks in for ‘processing’, this is not the kind of decision that we make lightly. No matter the logic or reasoning; or that I know it is, especially in this case, necessary. It was a very hard decision and I think that is the way it should be.
Well I am hoping that the old saying trouble comes in threes is true as I am not sure what else I can deal with this week. On top of the troubles, last night we sold Little Dude which was really hard and I am kind of dreading Thursday already.
Just in case you didn’t read Monday’s post, one of our neighbours reported us to the city complaining that our ducks have been ‘trespassing’ and eating crops, this isn’t strictly true, but it has meant that we need to ensure that our ducks do not leave our property at all.
Today I was going to write about the crazy busy weekend we had, after Saturday’s spinning (for me) and wood cutting and tidying (for Steve), yesterday was even busier with sheep evaluating, chasing, vaccinating, begging forgiveness with treats, quail pen cleaning, and even more wood chopping, sorting and stacking.
