Indoor forest!

October 18th, 2010 by Heidi

With the dropping of the temperatures my collection of exotic trees has moved into my office, and it is starting to get a little crowded in here! I am not sure yet where I am going to put the herbs that need to come in!

I planted some pots ‘Steve style’ this year, that is randomly, and then forgot what I planted!

Minty fresh!

June 16th, 2010 by Heidi

Buying before selling meant that we were able to move house in batches, unfortunately bad planning left my herb garden all alone at the old house, and if being deserted wasn’t bad enough, the poor abandoned things were outdoors with the weather ranging from 20°C to snowing to 29°C all in the space of a week!

It’s a conspiracy!

June 8th, 2010 by Heidi

OK, so this is the one where I rant and rave like a crazy person, but if you had seen me this afternoon evicting the chicken from the deck garden for the third time in five minutes, swearing at the chipmunk or chasing the sheep down the road while waving a stick in the air, you would have no doubt at all that I have completely lost the few marbles I had left!

Vegetable garden planning

Where did it go?

January 31st, 2010 by Heidi

Where did January go? I am really not sure how it is already the last day in January. Now don’t get me wrong, the closer we get to Spring the more excited I get thinking about the lambs and my vegetable garden. But with the speed at which this month passed I am not going to be ready!

It has been quite a year for us, it has been our first full year here on our little farm.

Exciting post!

December 9th, 2009 by Heidi

The title may be a little misleading, chances are you won’t think this post is terribly exciting, but I was thrilled today when there was something other than the normal junk mail in our box.

Winter garden & garden planning

November 30th, 2009 by Heidi

On Friday I received the newsletter from Salt Spring Seeds and it made me realize that it is probably time to start thinking and planning for the spring. Not that I am one of those winter hating people, I like snow, but I can’t help but be excited about next years growing prospects.

Winter garden

October 19th, 2009 by Heidi

We are very lucky to have a solarium, which is just perfect for winter gardening. It is about 8ft by 12ft, the south wall is pretty much floor to ceiling windows and just to make it completely perfect, the ceiling is mostly made up of skylights.
