November 6th, 2009 by Heidi

Last week I let you in on why we started raising chickens and why for the sake of the animals I encourage you to think when you are shopping and vote with your dollars. But there are also health benefits for you and your family to consider.

Books, beeswax & blogs!

June 29th, 2009 by Heidi

I discovered the library! For a long time I have steered clear of libraries, and I mean a long time! I love my books and generally like to have a copy of books that I like in my personal library. When I was in school I borrowed a book from the library and loved it, I returned it and set out to buy myself a copy, only to discover it was out of print. I was devastated and swore off libraries.

So the bantam hen has been moved into a separate crate of her own, and she has since laid us a couple of little blue eggs. We are leaving her eggs alone in the hopes she will soon get broody.

What a weekend

March 9th, 2009 by Heidi

These days it seems that weekends disappear in a flash and by Monday I need a rest! Saturday morning we ventured out to Seedy Saturday. I was on my best behaviour as I have already ordered most of the seeds we will need, well probably more than we need, but Steve choose a couple of packets and we found some other interesting stuff, but I will save more on that for tomorrow’s post.
