OK, so this is the one where I rant and rave like a crazy person, but if you had seen me this afternoon evicting the chicken from the deck garden for the third time in five minutes, swearing at the chipmunk or chasing the sheep down the road while waving a stick in the air, you would have no doubt at all that I have completely lost the few marbles I had left!

The mystery of the bantam eggs!April 18th, 2009 by HeidiWe were not really sure what was happening to the bantam hens eggs, then I found a half eaten egg on the floor, and by the time Steve got home from work it was entirely gone. So the bantam hen has been moved into a separate crate of her own, and she has since laid us a couple of little blue eggs. We are leaving her eggs alone in the hopes she will soon get broody. Eggs-travaganzaMarch 13th, 2009 by HeidiIsn’t it eggs-tremely eggs-citing! What a weekendMarch 9th, 2009 by HeidiThese days it seems that weekends disappear in a flash and by Monday I need a rest! Saturday morning we ventured out to Seedy Saturday. I was on my best behaviour as I have already ordered most of the seeds we will need, well probably more than we need, but Steve choose a couple of packets and we found some other interesting stuff, but I will save more on that for tomorrow’s post. Broody hen replacement!February 8th, 2009 by HeidiWell our little bantam hen who we hoped would act as a broody for us is still showing no interest. We really need to increase our flock size though so we are taking matters into our own hands! Chick Chick, Chick Chick ChickenJanuary 7th, 2009 by HeidiI figure its about time for an update on the Bantam hen and her brood, the ones that I am currently raising in a dog crate in my office, and what better way to do that than with some photos! Egg huntingNovember 26th, 2008 by HeidiIf you have been reading you will probably know that last Thursday we got our first egg, closely followed by a second on Saturday, then nothing. We added Boven Nera’s on Tuesday who were giving us 2 eggs each day. But nothing more from the Chantecler’s. Pearl and the Beverley sistersNovember 20th, 2008 by HeidiOf course as always there has been more going on here than just the chaos with the cats and dogs. You may have read the ‘suspecting fowl play’ post earlier in the month about the duck who got quite badly beaten up by the other ducks. She has come to be known as Pearl and spent two weeks living seperately from the others while she recovered. At night she would sleep in a hay lined box in a dog crate, every morning we would carry her out to a pen in the yard where she could be with the others but safe from them. |
