Gone to the dogs – a quick update!

November 17th, 2008 by Heidi

This was the post I wrote last Thursday, with a little update on the end to bring it up to date ….

I spent Friday in the kitchen preparing for Steve’s surprise birthday party. As it was getting dark I went out to put everyone to bed for the night and found Aspen gone! He had been cabled to a ring that was bolted to the barn, be had pulled the ring right off. He is still missing.

Thorn in his corner Thorn

We searched Friday night, but it was already dark. Steve knocked on all the neighbours doors and one said that they think he may have been in their garden as there was a large pile of dog poop and they only have little dogs. Yesterday in the pouring rain we searched again, we went to the next street down and started knocking on doors, and had a definite sighting. He was seen going south across a field at 4pm on Friday. We drove out that way and knocked on some more doors.

I had to tell Steve about his surprise party. As searching in the dark would not likely be very constructive we decided not to cancel.

Today, the forecast says snow showers, which I think is an improvement over rain, and we will be out looking again. Please send you positive thoughts to Aspen, telling him to come home.

There were in fact 2 busts resulting in Montreal SPCA trying to deal with 330 dogs in desperate need. A number of local rescue groups went to Montreal to help, but FOAP were not in a position to.

Empty harness …

Yesterday after I wrote ‘Dog days on winter’ I went out to check on the Thorn and everyone else, I found the harness on the floor in the barn empty. He was in a harness because she said he slipped collars. I found him out in the paddock, slinking down the fence line. He got down to the corner lay down and stayed there. Thats where he spent the rest of the day, and night and still is this morning.

Dog days of winter

Unfortunately I am not talking about the weather; right now the world revolves around dogs. Today’s post was supposed to be a joyful announcement of the latest addition to our family and workforce, Thorn. Well yesterday we collected Thorn, but he was far from the dog we expected.
