First hand-spun project

October 5th, 2010 by Heidi

The awesome aunt who’s housewarming gift we turned into an electric ball winder came to visit this weekend. I was so thrilled with the ball winder and the amount of work it saved that I wanted to make her something to show my appreciation. When I discovered she was visiting, and that she happened to be visiting on her birthday it just seemed too perfect, so I set about making her a shawl with my hand-spun yarn.

Better late than never

Tuesday we were working hard at getting some of the yarn I have spun, washed and wound into balls. And then I planned on showing you the results.

House warming gift!

I really dislike winding yarn, but it is often a necessary task. Possibly because I don’t enjoy it, I am not very good at it, and often end up with ‘yarn barf’ instead of a nice neat easy-pull ball.

Tour de Fleece completed

July 26th, 2010 by Heidi

The Tour de Fleece has finished, and while there is still roving in my basket I would say it was a resounding success. I spun at least a little bit most every day.

Two wheels are better than one!

Now while I still love Louie my upright Louet spinning wheel, when I came across an Ashford traditional wheel on UsedOttawa for a very reasonable price I couldn’t help myself, I have always loved the look of the traditional wheels.

Tour de Fleece

Just in time to make a last minute dash for the start line I heard about the Tour de Fleece. The goal is to spin every day the Tour rides, and as I have been sadly neglecting my wheel in the last couple of months I thought this would be a good way to get me motivated.

Wooly Wabbits

We added two new fluffy friends to our family – a pair of pedigree English Angora rabbits – they are 5 month old sisters called Cookie Monster and Talya and they are just like giant teddy bears!

Better than a honeypot & burst balloon!

June 14th, 2010 by Heidi

I had a birthday and just like Eeyore I got two presents, well OK so not really like Eeyore as I got more than two presents, but one of them was held up by ‘snail mail’ and the other required a visit to Canadian Tire so they were a little delayed.

Monday evening was the monthly Ottawa Valley Weaver’s and Spinner’s Guild meeting. It will probably be my last given that by next months meeting I should be living in Perth, but it was most definitely a worthwhile meeting.

An Olympic ending!

On Saturday with time to spare, and having had much help from Christine I finished my Olympic knitting!

Shetland fleeces for sale

February 22nd, 2010 by Heidi

Living on a single salary has really taken some getting used to and I don’t know I can say for certain that we really have yet. We are still sure of our decision for me to stay home and mind the farm, but we really need to get the farm to start contributing to rather than draining finances.

Knitting Olympics!

February 15th, 2010 by Heidi

Having learnt the basics of knitting it was about time that I started a ‘for real’ project, but I just couldn’t decide what I wanted to make. Limited time, inspiration and funds left me not managing to start anything.
