Warm toes!

There had obviously once been a wood stove, well in fact more than one, here. But they had been removed sometime in the past and replaced with electric baseboards and a gas furnace. Neither of which thrills me from an eco-friendly point of view and I hate bills, who doesn’t. With 120 acres that is mostly forest I don’t really see why we would pay someone else for fuel to keep us warm!

So from before we even completed on the house the plan was to have a wood stove installed, and that has finally happened.

Wood stove

It is incredible how toasty warm our house is from our super little stove. It is an Alderlea, which is an efficient cast iron stove from Pacific Energy who are “a recognized leader in hearth product innovation and clean burn technology”. They care about the environment and the Alderlea range are clean, long-burning stoves. With the fire lit and a little assist from a ceiling fan at the top of the stairs our house is toasty warm throughout, and a good fire before bed means the house is still warm in the morning, and there are hot coals to get us going again.

Even better it has a large concealed cook top and food warming shelves so if the power goes out we can still have a cup of tea and hot food. And isn’t it gorgeous! I hate to quote their promotional material but it really is “an effective heater with old world charm.”

The work was done by a local company – Embers – and they have been so helpful throughout that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them. I am just so happy to be able to curl up in front of the fire, and so are the cats, they even forget their differences and curl up together! Now the winter weather can threaten all it wants, we will be warm.

I am not being / have not been paid or recompensed for this post in anyway, I am so happy with the stove and the lovely people who installed it that I just wanted to share.

I love to know what you think so please rate my post or leave me a comment. If you really liked this post maybe you would consider sharing it. Thank you.

  1. We got their Super Insert (http://pacificenergy.net/product_insert_super.php) last year, and have been pretty happy. It’s at the end of the room in the lowest level in a tri-level, and so it doesn’t heat nearly the whole house, or even the 2000 sq ft they say… but it does do a pretty good job. I wish we could have a free-standing one like you got – I feel those are better than the inserts!
