I really dislike winding yarn, but it is often a necessary task. Possibly because I don’t enjoy it, I am not very good at it, and often end up with ‘yarn barf’ instead of a nice neat easy-pull ball.

I had managed to convince Steve to help a couple of times, but when we saw this electric ball winder in the Janie H Knits sale, and as my aunt had very kindly sent us some money for a housewarming gift, we simply couldn’t help ourselves!

Electric ball winder

Thank you very much Aunt Joan. You have no idea how much easier it has made life already! :)

  2. How fancy! It has two spokes – is that for plying? I do like my antique wool winder but it puts it into skeins, not nice centerpull balls.

  3. My ball winder (manual; looks very different from yours) is one of the best fiber-related tools I’ve bought; makes life SO much easier!

  4. Meagan, It winds all on to one spoke, the other is for the ‘arm’ to run up and down to get the wool evenly distributed. I will show it to you in action when you come visit.

Michelle, it certainly makes life a lot easier, now I have lived with it I don’t think I could do without it! :)
