Friday morning Fleur, our baby donkey, died in my arms.

She was three weeks and three days old. She died ten minutes before the emergency vet arrived. Dixie is very sad, she and Gus keep calling and looking for their little one.

I love our life but I wish that the lessons didn’t have to be so hard. Donkeys and barbed wire don’t mix. We will be removing every last inch of barbed wire from our 120 acres.

Sleep well baby girl. We loved you very much even though we were only blessed with you in our life for such a short time. We miss you.

I love to know what you think so please rate my post or leave me a comment. If you really liked this post maybe you would consider sharing it. Thank you.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about Fleur. Barbed wire is nasty and common on old farms. Around here its like a weed with deep roots that I have to keep digging up…burried pieces keep appearing. It is a balancing act, keeping animals safe from what is outside the fence and safe within the fence. You can only do your best and the unforseen can still happen.

  2. I am so sorry for your loss. Poor little Fleur. I take it she got tangled in some barbed wire? How tragic. Gus was very friendly when we were there on Saturday, but Dixie did seem a bit aloof, though she did come up to us. She must be so sad.

    Rest in Peace Fleur.
