10 years ago a friend at work asked for my help. He was moving in with his girlfriend who had this kitten. He was horribly allergic to the kitten, so the kitten needed a new home. He knew I was a cat lover, and would take good care of him, I couldn’t say no.

The kitten’s name was Boots, he was born on the 25th September 2000 and moved in with me on the 14th December 2000. He was my little chaos demon, he would sleep all day so he could rush about all night, I would go into work exhausted and telling how the little chaos demon kept me up. Then Steve came over, he sat on my sofa, Boots curled up in his lap and went to sleep. That was it. Love at first sight. So of course I had to keep Steve around!

Boots - May 2006

Boots stole teddy bears and cushions, and when we lived in England, brought in sheep’s wool from nearby barbed wire fences. He used all the soft things he found to make a nest under the bed! He had a particular fondness for my collection of rabbit soft toys, and would regularly move them around the house, talking to them as he carried them!

Boots tolerated me, and on occasion a few privileged people got a cuddle. But he only ever really loved Steve. He was a very nervous cat and few people ever had the chance to meet him. As soon as they left he would seek out his one-and-only.

Boots & George - November 2006

With other cats, Boots was big brother. He could often be found curled up with Merlyn, Taliesin or George, and they sought him out for a wash and a snuggle. He and Mia were also close, and we discovered that her company made him much calmer when travel was required. Even after we had younger cats and kittens, and he was their big brother, to us he was always ‘Baby-cat’.

Boots - October 2006 Boots - January 2008 Boots - March 2008

Yesterday after a brief illness he left us.

Sleep well Baby-cat, you were very much loved, and we all miss you.

I love to know what you think so please rate my post or leave me a comment. If you really liked this post maybe you would consider sharing it. Thank you.

  5. When we were living in England Boots would always wait at the end of the drive way for me to come home from the pub in the evening. No matter what the time he would no go indoors until I had returned.
