I love turtles, but they really need to learn their green cross code!

We found this little guy in the middle of our road as we returned from a bicycle ride, so after a quick photo session I helped him on his way down to the water, and sat him on a rock.

It took him a little time to realize what had happened, then he slipped off into the water. I have been back to check on him, but he never pops up to say hello!

He was rescued last Saturday, then last Monday we found another one in the middle of the main road, so of course Steve stopped and put on his hazards while I escorted the little guy into the safety of the grass!

The same day we found a foot-long snapping turtle in our field, and later barn! She was pretty bad tempered, as we discovered when we tried to move her to a more suitable location!

A chat with our neighbour educated us, that while being about a week early this year, what we are seeing is the snapping turtles looking for places to lay their eggs. So we have been very careful when out walking as their are a lot of them!

For everyone’s safety we felt she couldn’t stay in the barn, so using a small dog carrier we relocated her to a nice spot a little further down our property.

I love to know what you think so please rate my post or leave me a comment. If you really liked this post maybe you would consider sharing it. Thank you.
