A chapter ends …

June 30th, 2010 by Heidi

It may seem crazy to have moved three times in the space of four years, but each move was a necessary step to lead us to where we are, and while I wish we hadn’t spent quite so much in Realtor fees, I cannot regret the outcome.

Chickens -2 +30!

June 28th, 2010 by Heidi

Since we moved we have lost both our roosters, one simply disappeared, we assume he met something fiercer than him, then last week the remaining rooster, one of the original ‘John Waynes’, seemed hurt.

Return of the bees!

June 25th, 2010 by Heidi

I was so sure one of us had written about losing the second hive of bees, but I cannot find mention of it so we must not have done. But we did lose the second hive of bees. Although sad it did make moving the hives to our new place a sight easier!

First shearing attempts

June 24th, 2010 by Heidi

Our plan this year was to roo our sheep, or at least as many as possible, and then to decide what to do about anyone left who wasn’t ‘roo-able’. We made pretty good progress but have a couple whose fleece needed a little more encouragement.

Shaken, not stirred!

June 23rd, 2010 by Heidi

I was sat at my desk this afternoon when the world began to shake and I could hear a low rumbling, I wasn’t sure what it was. I considered earthquake but I thought animals reacted to such events and the cats were still sleeping peacefully. Charlie was pacing, but then he sometimes does that.

Don’t have a cow, man!

June 22nd, 2010 by Heidi

Last night was orientation evening at the Manotick Village Butcher. Our butcher Blair showed all of us, not just those who will be working in the shop how to properly chop up a chicken!

Cuckoo’s nest road!

June 20th, 2010 by Heidi

It was quite the weekend and right now our house looks rather like a furniture shop exploded and was then attacked by a giant shedding ball of fur! But luckily for us we have friends. The weekend was supposed to be all about moving furniture, Steve hired a U-Haul truck, found some volunteers and set about moving all the remaining large things from old house to new.

Distress call!

June 18th, 2010 by Heidi

Last week we had a distress call from a friend, one of her neighbour’s barn cats had moved into her barn and had four kittens. Which in itself wasn’t that big a problem, but then one of her tom cats ate one of the kittens! She didn’t know how to keep them safe and asked for our help.

A delightfully fruity day!

June 17th, 2010 by Heidi

As I might have mentioned before I love fruit trees and for my birthday Steve got me a lovely Meyer lemon tree from the Green Barn Nursery. Well yesterday we went on an adventure to Montreal and returned with amongst other things 6 fruit trees!

Minty fresh!

June 16th, 2010 by Heidi

Buying before selling meant that we were able to move house in batches, unfortunately bad planning left my herb garden all alone at the old house, and if being deserted wasn’t bad enough, the poor abandoned things were outdoors with the weather ranging from 20°C to snowing to 29°C all in the space of a week!

Our old house!
I would like to share the most wonderful news with you … our old house is SOLD!

I don’t think that even in our wildest imaginings we thought it would happen so quickly, but it is such a relief. We had the offer last week, which of course was followed by some negotiations, but we wanted to wait until today when all conditions were met and it was official before we said anything.

Tomorrow I will worry about planning moving the rest of our large furniture, lawn tractor etc, today I am just too excited to concentrate!

Better than a honeypot & burst balloon!

I had a birthday and just like Eeyore I got two presents, well OK so not really like Eeyore as I got more than two presents, but one of them was held up by ‘snail mail’ and the other required a visit to Canadian Tire so they were a little delayed.
