A rough week

Apologies for the radio silence but last week was pretty rough. On top of the stress of moving, two mortgages etc, we had some dog trouble. With all of this, and my routine being ‘messed up’, I reached breaking point and rather stopped functioning for a few days.

Unfortunately Devon did not react well to the move here and never found himself able to trust us. He wouldn’t come out of his crate when we were around, but howled and carried on when in it, including through the night. When out of the kitchen and left alone he would pace, whine and counter surf.

Last night when dashing back into his crate he managed to pull his collar off, when Steve tried to put it back on him, Devon got very agitated and fearful and tried to bite Steve. In the end we had to admit defeat and call Finola. I can’t help but feel like we failed, but the happy, excited dog I saw when Finola arrived today was proof that it was the right decision, he hadn’t been that animated since she last drove away.

Hopefully now I will be able to pull myself back together and get caught up with everything that didn’t get done last week.

I love to know what you think so please rate my post or leave me a comment. If you really liked this post maybe you would consider sharing it. Thank you.

  1. I’m so sorry it didn’t work out. He was a beautiful dog. We tried to adopt an Aussie that was poorly socialized and very fearful and we had the same result but it was our son that got almost bitten. It was so hard for us to return him because we already have one Aussie and we know how amazing a breed they can be but it was our only option.

  2. Thanks Fiona. It’s hard but sometimes the best or only thing you can do is admit you are not the right person for a dog.
