Departures

It has been a long weekend of departures with a population reduction of 1 dog, 2 cats and 6 sheep! Today’s post will be a short one as I am not long home and have yet to have any dinner.

I have been away from the farm all day today helping introduce Ash and Monkey Puzzle to the new canine they will hopefully be sharing a home and life with from now on. I say hopefully as there are allergy worries, for the new people in their lives not the dog! But we have all our fingers crossed.

They were in fact the last of the departures, which sadly began on Friday with the loss of little Lynn. She had been doing well, but it looks like she got knocked over by one of the others and got trapped under the feeder. This was just one last insult too many for her little body. She was sadly and unexpectedly followed by Sweet Pea this morning. Sweet Pea was the other ewe that had been badly plucked by the dogs, that in combination with the hay had left her in poor condition. We had her in the ‘special care’ ward but it wasn’t enough.

On a brighter note on Saturday morning Spirit was delivered to her new home and four of our sheep were collected to be taken to their new home. We will miss Spirit but it is a relief to be able to start working with Willow without the constant fear of them crossing paths.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about Sweet Pea! She was one of my favorites.
I am happy to hear that Ash and Monkey Puzzle may have found forever homes – they are SO sweet!

  2. Allergies are coping thus far! Ash and Puzzle are settling, having found a suitable hidey hole in my fibre room. Rags is adjusting to new friends who do NOT wish to play tag. They are lovely boys and we are glad to have them.
