I have been very lucky that my new friend and mentor Elizabeth the Hilltop Fibreworker has very kindly has lent me a drum carder. Which has meant I have been able to carry on with carding fleece for myself at home.

The fleece needs a couple of passes through the carder and is me-powered, so it isn’t a terribly quick process!

My problem right now is that I have filled the carder but you take it off with something called a diz. Elizabeth didn’t have a spare and so I have been making do with a slotted spoon which works remarkably well! But someone came in on the weekend and stole my diz and has now hidden it!

I have quite the Aladdin’s cave of fibre going on in my office at the moment! All of the washed fleeces are now in individual old pillow cases. Using pillow cases is in case they weren’t 100% dry when I bagged them after washing so they can still breathe and dry out properly.

Very soon I am going to have to get brave enough to try spinning some of the beautiful roving I have from Maria.

I love to know what you think so please rate my post or leave me a comment. If you really liked this post maybe you would consider sharing it. Thank you.

  1. It looks so soft! Good luck with the spinning – I’m sure you will do a great job!
