In the fall we bought quite a few pounds of apples from a local orchard, and what is really fabulous is that we are still enjoying them. I had no idea that things likes apples, potatoes, onions and squash could be kept for so long, fresh.
We needed to make up some applesauce for our next batch of granola; as he was peeling and chopping apples anyway Steve decided to make me a treat – Apple Hermits – oh my but I love those cookies. Sadly in this form they don’t last very long at all!
We also tried drying a batch of apple rings. They were so good that the jar was empty in two days! Last night we put another batch in the food dryer, it may seem like an odd thing to do when we could just be eating fresh, but they are tasty and make good healthy munchie food for when you are on the go.

Apple hermits sound really good!!

Those Apple hermits sound great! I shall remember them for when I have apples next. I always love finding a delicious cookie recipe.

You’re making good use of those apples – what a blessing! I used to get abundance boxes of local apples, but my trouble is that I don’t have extra cool storage for them.
