I found this blog a while back and have been meaning to take part in the weekly ‘You Capture’ and just not quite managed it. Today I saw the post and thought ‘Food’ it’s a bit last minute but surely I can manage something. Plus I had no idea what to blog about!

It led to thinking about baking and a lot of looking through recipes for inspiration. Then I remembered this other blog post I had come across for a recipe that sounded really good – Tomato Pie.

Now you would be forgiven for thinking that savoury, non-baked (well not entirely baked) goods is really not my area in the kitchen. I had suggested to Steve that this was something he should be trying, as he is the pastry expert, but he isn’t here and this photo challenge had me excited! I did a little googling and found a recipe for pastry with instructions on how to do it with my kitchenaid stand mixer, well why not!

So out I went and raided the garden for some tomatoes, an onion and some basil. A few tears later …..

Homegrown tomatoes, basil & onion

I thought it would be fun to try with a selection of colours, so have a Green Zebra, an Orange Strawberry and (probably) a couple of Montreal Tasty’s and a ‘whatever of the red ones’.

Oh My! This stuff is tasty! Steve is on lates so wont be home till 9pm, I dont know if it will last that long, so no-one tell him, ok, it will be our secret! :)

Seeing as I was in the kitchen anyway and already crying from onions, I figured I may as well get another batch of Rhubarb Ketchup under way, then I got really crazy and decided to make a batch of this rather interesting sounding Rhubarb Rosemary Jelly. Steve’s gonna wonder what happened!

Now I need to rest and re-fuel with a little more of that Tomato Pie! Why don’t you head on over to “I should be folding laundry” and check out all the other edibles.

I love to know what you think so please rate my post or leave me a comment. If you really liked this post maybe you would consider sharing it. Thank you.

I’m so impressed that I will be requesting this again. For all of you who have not experienced tomato pie yet – I would recommend you do. Although you may have to make it yourselves as ther will be none of this one left. :-)
