The first and most important thing I need to say is thank you to my friends, I appreciate your love and support more than you know. I never meant to cause anyone any worry.

Of course around here things just keep moving, Friday gave us ducklings! They continued hatching all weekend and we have 16 lovely little ducklings, from two nests. The two mums had chosen to nest very close to each other and are now sharing the mothering duties, along with a third who has moved in and started sharing a nest with one.

One of them is having a problem with one of the Bovan Nera chickens who keeps going and sitting on the mum duck! We try and remove her but she goes straight back. The duck doesn’t seem that bothered, but it does look kind of like the hen is trying to hatch the duck!

Is there anything cuter than ducklings?

Our earlier ducklings are now five weeks old and doing well. They are now free range with everyone else (well they get closed safely in the barn at night), and doing well. But they come running whenever they see me hoping for treats!

Of course the chickens have been busy too, we still have three Chantecler hens on nests, but split between two bantam surrogate mums we now have 14 chicks.

This weekend of course saw much activity in the garden, a week of me feeling low combined with weather that alternated sun and rain, (every day – this is seeming far more like an English summer!) has meant extraordinary growth, and not only from the weeds. But that sounds like content for another post!

And the three little piglets moved to bigger outside digs, which had plenty of drama of its own! But that is also a story for another day.

I love to know what you think so please rate my post or leave me a comment. If you really liked this post maybe you would consider sharing it. Thank you.

  1. I love holding those little guys! I’m so happy there are more chicks too!
