This weekend has been busy as always, with much of it spent in the garden. There is of course endless weeding to be done, but we also had a little planting to do. And of course a little camera time had to be fitted in.
I spent quite a bit of time in the ‘three sisters’ patch. I finally got it weeded and today planted more corn, and beans where the corn is tall enough. Some of the earlier stuff is starting to look quite good, in spite of the ‘goose attention’ it received!
In the main vegetable patch things are coming along nicely. In some places, if you don’t look too hard, you could almost believe we are winning the battle against the weeds!
Steve spent some time ‘reinforcing’ the fence line that divides the sheep pasture from our vegetable patch, as we have been having problems with the lambs fence breaking. They haven’t done any damage to the garden as far as we know, but after the goose v. corn situation we aren’t taking any chances! Bertram kept a close eye on him to make sure he was doing a good job.
As a result of the incidents I have referred to we also said goodbye to Bob the Emden goose. We had been considering it for a while so as to make sure we are just raising pure Toulouse geese rather than crosses, then after the garden damage I wanted rid of all of them. Steve overruled me and for the time being the three Toulouse and little dude will stay.
As we were packing up for the evening we heard a commotion from the potato tire stacks, and found this little guy.
I think he may be a robin, as when he flapped I could see red on his breast, and there was an adult robin hanging around. I hope he learns to stay quiet before something less friendly than me and my camera finds him.

Great update – I love the baby Robin! So cute! Hope to see you guys soon!

Yep, that’s a baby robin. Hope his parents feed him and he gets another day or two to fledge more and fly away!

So fun to see the pictures of your garden. And you have Sweet Peas already! They’re my favorite flower . . . mine are only about 6″ tall now.
I can relate to you wanting to keep your goose strain true. We have a hen who just hatched out a mish-mosh of five little chickies. Who the daddy/daddies is/are is anyone’s guess!

We think we saw him fly between fence posts yesterday evening
