What a weekend

These days it seems that weekends disappear in a flash and by Monday I need a rest! Saturday morning we ventured out to Seedy Saturday. I was on my best behaviour as I have already ordered most of the seeds we will need, well probably more than we need, but Steve choose a couple of packets and we found some other interesting stuff, but I will save more on that for tomorrow’s post.

Saturday evening we had some new friends over to meet our little flock of Shetland sheep. They also started a small flock last year so we got together to compare notes. We seem to be meeting a lot of like-minded new people recently and making a lot of new friends. The funny thing is they live in the little village near our old house, and are neighbours with the lady we fostered kittens for. We had pork for dinner which we had bought from a small farm in that same village! While we lived over that way we knew no-one nearby, now we live on the other side of the city we seem to be making lots of friends there! C’est la vie!

Sunday we went back to the barn where the farmer had died with Cat Rescue Network. They think that there are only 6 left, but they are the wily ones, and catching them is not going to be easy. We only managed to trap one.

We dropped the one off at Country Cat Rescue, Gwen showed us around, and WOW. The place is amazing, she has about 300 cats there, many of which were feral. So many beautiful cats, and some were just so friendly, I got a lot of cuddles, including one that climbed up me put his arms around my neck and nibbled on my chin! Steve will never be able to say that we have too many cats again – although we also both agree that we couldn’t cope with that many. It did make us both realize that there is so much more we could be doing.

We got home to discover that our girls in the barn had exceeded themselves and laid 13 eggs! That means every one of our large chickens – Chantecler’s and Bovan Nera’s – laid an egg yesterday. Sadly though last night our little hatchling had died, we were not surprised, but were still rather sad.

I love to know what you think so please rate my post or leave me a comment. If you really liked this post maybe you would consider sharing it. Thank you.

  1. Oh my goodness 13!!!? That’s a busy bunch you have there!!!

It’s been too long since we last saw you guys! We’ll have to make time soon (though weekends fill up so fast) to meet up.

Sorry to hear about your hatchling… there is always next year.

    How is Aspen doing?
