250 years ago today Robert Burns (aka Rabbie Burns, Scotland’s favourite son, the Ploughman Poet, the Bard of Ayrshire and in Scotland simply The Bard) was born in Ayrshire, Scotland. Some of his more well known works include ‘Auld Lang Syne‘, ‘A Red, Red Rose‘, ‘To A Mouse‘ and of course the ‘Address to a Haggis‘.
Last night in tribute we hosted a Burns night supper, with a little help from google I came up with the perfect menu. Starting with Cock-a-Leekie soup. Followed by, of course, Haggis, neeps and tatties. With Chicken in the Heather for those that didn’t feel up to Haggis and an extra side of Cauliflower Cheese and Whisky. Finally topped off with Cranachan and of course a little Scotch whisky.
As Steve wasn’t feeling equal to the task we played a YouTube video of the Address to a Haggis as Steve brought in the pudding and he waved his knife around at the appropriate moments!
All in all I would say it was a success, but what was really upsetting for me was that after everyone had left I discovered the shortbread that I had lovingly made in the afternoon to go with the Cranachan! It was my first attempt at Shortbread and Steve assures me is very good – I am not a fan of shortbread no matter who made it. As he likes it so much I cant help but be suspicious that Steve purposely ‘forgot’ the shortbread so as not to have to share it!

Everything was DELICIOUS!!! Well done Heidi and Steve!!
