I think Steve might block UsedOttawa …..

This is how I am currently employing one of the dog crates in my office!

Crated chicken!

She is a bantam; we got to look at the flock she came from which includes Silkies, Araucana and frizzlings (frizzling is when the feathers turn backwards) and other very pretty bantam birds. They were not expecting or planning on chicks at this time of year, she had hidden her nest!

There are 11 little chicks under her wings, all between 4 and 7 days old! The lady showed us how you can tell that a couple of them are already showing the frizzling feathers. I just think they are all too cute for words!

I think it is safe to suggest that the next little while may see a few chicken posts!

Their farm and barn was amazing, they had so many animals including donkeys, fainting goats and hedgehogs! They had a young alpaca who was just weaned that hummed to us, apparently she just really likes people. They told us a lot about how they manage, with far more animals than us on about 1/2 the acreage. It has given me a lot of ideas – which is possibly why Steve looks so stressed! I am sure he can’t be stressed by chickens in the house! :D

We also met another of Willows ‘siblings’, well another dog from Nat’s farm. A really handsome boy and apparently very good at his job, and not a threat to the chickens.

I love to know what you think so please rate my post or leave me a comment. If you really liked this post maybe you would consider sharing it. Thank you.

  1. So, you brought the chicken home and then a few days later you discovered chicks?! Incroyable!!!

By meeting Willow’s brother… are you considering bringing him home???

Steve might have to just disconnect you from the Internet all together!!! :)

  2. Not quite that crazy! We bought the hen and chicks, although it was a somewhat sudden decision! :) I found the add on UsedOttawa in the late afternoon, and we ended up going to get them in the evening!

The lady that we bought them from has Willow’s ‘sibling’ (not sure if actually her brother he is 3, but from the same breeder) guarding her farm, he is a very handsome boy and looks/sounds to be doing a very good job. I dont think she would be remotely interested in parting with him!
